Billie G. Ruppe was especially proud of her career as a registered nurse and served as a member of the advisory board for Midland College's Vocational Nursing program. In 1951, she began working at Midland Memorial Hospital and was past President of the Women's Hospital Auxiliary.

She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Co-founder and CEO of We Care Home Health Agency and past board member of The Allison Bridge Center. In 1981 she traveled to Saudi Arabia to open new hospitals as the head of nursing.

Nursing and caring for others was always an important part of Ruppe’s life until her death in February of 2011.

This past July, Mrs. Ruppe’s daughter Coletta Ruppe Ivy established the Billie G. Ruppe Nursing Endowed Scholarship with a gift to the Midland College Foundation of over $150,000. The scholarship will be awarded each semester to offset costs associated with tuition, fees, living expenses, books and supplies.
