Kim Bezinque and Mike Makowsky epitomize teaching excellence, and their dedication to their profession was honored on Thursday, January 10, at MC’s annual Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) ceremony.

The TEA are the most prestigious awards MC gives its faculty. Each year, the ceremony honors a faculty member from the academic/transfer area and one from the career/technical area. The award carries with it a cash honorarium, an individual plaque and a permanent listing in the Pevehouse Administration Building.

During the fall of 2012, seven faculty members were nominated by their peers. Each nominee was required to submit information about his/her professional experience as well as an essay describing individual teaching philosophy. The peer selection committee then interviewed all nominees.

Bezinque is assistant professor of nursing in the Associate Degree Nursing program, and Makowsky is associate professor of geography and international studies. MC Vice President of Instruction Dr. Rex Peebles noted, “Kim and Mike represent commitment to their profession in everything they do. They are both excellent teachers—they maintain compassion and integrity while instilling in their students a desire to excel. They truly are the ‘best of the best.’”
