Chap Baseball Improves to 9-4, Splitting with Colby and Sweeping Seward

The Midland College Chaparral baseball team took three of four games versus visiting teams from Kansas, splitting two games against Colby County Community College on Saturday and sweeping a double header with Seward County Community College on Sunday.

In the Colby series the Chaps took game one 14-10 with freshman pitcher Clay O'Dell picking up the win in relief for sophomore Jake Bateman. In the second game Colby took advantage of eight Midland College errors in the 11-9 MC loss. In Sunday's games against Seward County CC, Midland College put on a tremendous offensive display, pounding the Saints for nine hits in the 8-0 Chap win. Jeremy Filipek recorded the complete game victory in the first game, scattering six hits by the Saints.

The offensive assault continued in the second game a 16-3 Midland College win, including solo home runs by Hunter Redman and Steve Withrow. MC collected 12 hits including seven extra base hits against SCCC pitchers. Midland's Thomas McIlreath picked up the win on the mound going five innings before Keanu Ramos entered the contest going two innings for the save.

The Chaparrals travel to Borger on March 1st and 2nd for a four-game, conference opening series versus Frank Phillips College.
