Midland College Softball Plays Final Home Games of Season, Honors Sophomores

The Midland College Lady Chaparral softball team will conclude the home portion of the 2013 schedule with a four-game set over the weekend at Lady Chap Field. The Lady Chaps will play a pair of double-headers versus Luna Community College of Las Vegas, NM. Luna is in their first year of competition in the conference.

The first double-header will be played on Friday, April 26th @ 1:00 p.m. at Lady Chap Field (on the MC campus), then on Saturday the Lady Chaps and Luna will play a second double dip beginning at 11:00 a.m. also at Midland College.

The Lady Chaps enters the final regular season series with a 36-26 overall record, which includes being 12-12 in conference (4th place). Luna is currently 18-29 this season and 9-15 in the WJCAC (6th place).

On Saturday, coaches Tommy Ramos and Mailei Henry will honor six departing members of the Lady Chap softball team. Those graduating sophomores are as follows:

Taylor Clancy, catcher (Los Banos, CA); Marlene Fields, outfielder (Stockton, CA); Holly Herrington, pitcher (Odessa, TX); Earnysha Scroggins, outfielder (Riverside, CA); Carly Wiedenback, infielder (North Bend, WA) and Kristine Vargas, pitcher (Jal, NM).

In the currently WJCAC standings, Midland College qualifies for the 2013 NJCAA Region 5 West Softball Tournament (May 2nd-4th) in Lubbock, TX at Texas Tech University. The tournament field will be comprised of the top six teams in the WJCAC with the winner advancing to the 2013 NJCAA Women's Division I Softball Championships in St. George, UT.
