BORGER, TEXAS - The Midland College Lady Chaparral softball team split their conference-opening doubleheader against Frank Phillips College on Thursday but also reached a milestone for its head coach.

The Lady Chaparrals lost the first game to the Lady Plainsmen, 4-3, but then bounced back to win the second game, 6-2, and give head coach Tommy Ramos his 700th victory.

Ramos said his team had actually been putting a lot of pressure on itself trying to get him that milestone win but was proud that they were able to push through their fatigue and all the emotions to get that victory.

“It’s a great mark and a good indication of the kind of players that we’ve had in the past and the commitment they put into the program,” said Ramos, who’s in his 15th season of coaching the Lady Chaps. “Every player past and present played a part of this. It’s not just one person, it’s definitely the girls.”
