Newspaper reports great start for Lady Chaps at Midland College WNIT

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Mary Savoy knew that if her Midland College Lady Chaparral basketball team was going to knock off No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley Community College on Thursday, the Lady Chaparrals had to believe they could do it.

While things didn’t look good when MC trailed 32-20 at the intermission, the Lady Chaparrals rallied in the second half to upset the Lady Cardinals, 65-59, in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament at Chaparral Center.

“What kept us going was making a change in our minds that we really wanted this,” said Savoy, who had 10 of her 15 points in the second half. “We all wanted this so we put in the effort, got down on defense, made good decisions with the ball, and went ahead and played basketball” ...

The Lady Chaps' next game in the tournament is this evening at 7:00 p.m., at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center, when Midland College (6-3) faces McLennan Community College (3-5).
