Effective October 1, 2016, the U. S. Department of Education implemented important changes to the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). In order to help parents and students understand the changes and to assist with completion of the FAFSA, Midland College (MC) will host FAFSA assistance every Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and every Thursday from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Those interested in attending one of these individualized sessions should reserve an appointment by emailing the Midland College Welcome Center at welcome@midland.edu

“Previously, parents and students could not complete the FAFSA for the following school year until filing their current year’s income tax return,” explained MC Director of Financial Aid Yolanda Ramos. “For example, under the old guidelines, FAFSAs for the 2017-2018 school year would not be available for completion until spring of 2017. However, the Department of Education has now revised procedures, and students and parents are encouraged to go ahead and file FAFSAs for the 2017-2018 year using income tax information from 2015. By completing the FAFSA early, students may be eligible for additional federal and state grants. They may also avoid any possible delays of their funding for the upcoming academic year.”

More information about financial aid awards, FAFSA guidelines and scholarship opportunities available through Midland College is available on the MC website at midland.edu/FAFSA
