Deadline extended for MC travel course to Costa Rica

• Trip has 'made,' but there are still a couple of openings

Our next Midland College travel experience for community members will be to Costa Rica from March 4 – 10, 2017. You and your friends are invited to join me and my co-leader, Dr. Ed Barnhart of the Maya Exploration Center to explore the biology and archaeology of Costa Rica.

We will travel from the heights of the Irazu Volcano to Uvita where the jungle meets the sea. Included will be whale watching, culture and the mysterious stone balls found in Guayabo National Monument. As always, Dr. Barnhart will be our main leader and the archaeology expert. As always, the trip is limited to 20 participants.

Registration deadline is Thursday, December 1, 2016.

This week-long educational adventure will take its participants to Costa Rica in order to learn about its flora, fauna, ancient culture and modern people. Flying in and out of San Jose, the course will explore the eastern part of the country and the Pacific coast, visiting volcanoes, archaeological sites and nature preserves.

From the Pacific coast, a day in the middle of the week will take to the ocean and witness the whale migrations taking place in March. Moving on to Golfito, the final day will be spent exploring the Piedras Blancas National Park on a wildlife trek. A flight from Golfito back to San Jose will return the group to the Alajuela area where they will explore local craft villages and catch early morning flights back to the USA.

Evening lectures during the week by Drs. Barnhart and Wade will further explain the archaeology, ecology, and geography of Costa Rica.
