• Accelerated courses/seminars offered through May with varying start dates
Dean of Community Relations & Special Events
New this semester, the Midland College (MC) Workforce Continuing Education department is offering professional development opportunities for building contractors, painters and renovators that meet certification guidelines of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Texas Department of State Health Services Toxic Substance Control Division.
The courses/seminars include initial certification training and required refresher updates in the following areas:
• Asbestos Contractor Supervisor
• Asbestos Worker
• EPA/HUD Renovation, Repair, Painting (RRP)
“We are finding that people are responding positively to having the opportunity to receive this mandated training locally in Midland,” said Elizabeth Wall in the MC Workforce Continuing Education department. “In the past, people had to travel to another city in order to meet these certification requirements.”
Wall explained that refresher updates are generally offered in a half-day or one-day session. The initial certification courses consist of 32-40 clock hours and are taught in a week-long format. The asbestos training and refresher courses include information on medical requirements, air monitoring and AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986).
Courses and seminars begin this week and will be repeated at various times through the middle of May. Tuition and fees range from $265 to $800 depending on course/seminar length. All of these professional development opportunities are offered at the convenient location of the Midland College Advanced Technology Center, 3200 W. Cuthbert (corner of Midkiff and Cuthbert, next to Furr’s Cafeteria).
