On Friday, March 24, Midland College (MC) students and Phi Theta Kappa members, Jamie Parks and Heather Dudley, were named to the All-Texas Academic Team at the All- Texas Academic Ceremony at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library on the campus of The University of Texas in Austin.
The All-Texas Academic Team awards are given annually to community college students nominated by faculty for outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership, and expression. Each college may nominate up to two students, and the nominations are reviewed by Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society. Nominees were evaluated on several criteria, including academic achievement, community service, leadership and expression.
“This award is only given to a handful of students in the state of Texas,” explained MC Government Professor Dr. Terry Gilmour who also serves as a Phi Theta Kappa and Honors advisor for MC. “This is a well-deserved reward for all of the hard work that these young women put into their academic pursuits. It is a privilege to work with these students who have demonstrated outstanding academic success, and it is fitting to mark their achievement with this recognition so that they may serve as shining examples for all Texans at community colleges.”
