UPDATE on honor society Suitcase Drive

Good morning,

The good news is that we have purchased 30 suitcases thanks to your donations. The goal is 45 so we are still accepting donations – please see the attached flyer created by one of our members. We will be delivering to High Sky what we have collected on Thursday of this week so if you still want to donate, we would appreciate any and all gifts! Thanks so much for helping with this very worthwhile project!

• Effort to benefit High Sky Children's Ranch

From Terry Gilmour
Professor of Government, Phi Theta Kappa Advisor

We have an awesome opportunity to help children of our community in a very tangible way! For our  Phi Theta Kappa College Project, we have elected to host a suitcase drive benefiting the children of High Sky Children's Ranch.

High Sky Children's Ranch is dedicated to healing abused children and promoting family wholeness within the foster care system.

A need for suitcases arises when these children enter the ranch's care. The transitional phase is extremely difficult for the children, as many are often forced to transport their belongings in a single trash bag. This transportation method not only forces many of the children to leave behind treasured belongings, but also creates a very negative implication regarding the value of their belongings and the worth that they each hold.

Our goal: We will be collecting suitcases in new or slightly used condition to provide each foster child of High Sky Children's Ranch with a suitcase of their own. By doing so, we hope to promote a message: that they and their belongings have worth.

Please note: suitcases with hard outer shells are difficult to store within the foster homes. We graciously ask that you seek out collapsible bags, similar to what many of you would deem a carry on bag. Examples are provided below.
When: PTK will be holding our drive now through April 28th!
Where: PTK will have drop-off locations available at the:
Welcome Center in the Scharbauer Student Center
Office 160 in Marie Hall Academic Building
For more information: Terry Gilmour, (432) 685-6816, tgilmour@midland.edu

Please consider donating to this worthwhile cause!

From MC President Dr. Steve Thomas: This is a VERY worthwhile project for our PTK Chapter.  I encourage you to help the children at High Sky, who in most cases have very little and a suitcase will be a wonderful gift. Count me in for a donation.
