• Master Class: Harmonica 12-Bar Blues & Lee Oskar Quick Guide Tips with Brandon Santini & Randy McQuay
Tall City Blues Fest is the signature summer event in downtown Midland and the best blues fest in Texas. Tall City Blues Fest 2017, presented by Downtown Midland Management District, will be held in downtown Midland July 14-16.
We are partnering with Tall City Blues Fest this year to offer music workshops in conjunction with the festival. All of the workshops will be held on Saturday, July 15, at the Doubletree Hotel, next to the festival grounds. Proceeds from the workshop registration fees will go to fund 2018 Kids’ College scholarships.
Workshop Leaders: Brandon Santini & Randy McQuay
This double header workshop will include a brief history of blues harmonica and a demonstration of how Fest fave, Brandon Santini, has interpreted and utilized the styles of other players to develop his own sound. Participants will be introduced to basic playing positions and how to navigate the 12 bar blues format before moving on to Lee Oskar Quick Guide tips facilitated by Randy McQuay, who will demonstrate techniques for pairing harmonica with acoustic guitar.
At the end of the workshop, each participant will receive the Lee Oskar Quick Guide—a booklet with tunings, chord diagrams and scales and also a link for pre-recorded video lessons for at-home study.
What to Bring: Harmonicas in the key of A & C and/or an interest in playing or learning to play harmonica. Participants are also welcome to bring a recording device, such as an iPhone or iPad to record for later review.
