MC music workshops at Tall City Blues Fest

Improvisation Melody Workshop with Jim Trimmier

Tall City Blues Fest is the signature summer event in downtown Midland and the best blues fest in Texas. Tall City Blues Fest 2017, presented by Downtown Midland Management District, will be held in downtown Midland July 14-16.

We are partnering with Tall City Blues Fest this year to offer music workshops in conjunction with the festival. All of the workshops will be held on Saturday, July 15, at the Doubletree Hotel, next to the festival grounds. Proceeds from the workshop registration fees will go to fund 2018 Kids’ College scholarships.

Improvisation Melody Workshop

Workshop Leader: Jim Trimmier (Sax Player for Rochelle & the Sidewinders)

Led by professional musician of 50+years, this sax player for Rochelle & the Sidewinders has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and will teach participants, whether they play guitar, keys or a horn, how to get inside the melody and find the “pretty notes” to play with forward motion. Improvisation is often seen as mysterious, when in fact it is a very natural way of making music. With the use of some music theory as a foundation, Trimmier will teach participants how to listen for and “pull the melodies out of thin air”.

What to Bring: An instrument/small amp (if necessary) and an ability to play a major scale. Participants are also welcome to bring a recording device, such as an iPhone or iPad to record for later review.
